Birth & Bereavement Photography in NE Kansas & Beyond
Completely FREE to the families that I serve.
“Birth documentation exists to honor the full spectrum of birth experiences, not just the ones that end as we hope. From full-term births to early losses, whether the story includes celebration or grief, from first breaths to final goodbyes, the experience itself deserves to be witnessed, remembered, and documented with care.”
“I believe every family deserves the option to have their birth experience documented, even when it includes loss.”
I specialize in Birth & Bereavement, but why?
I came to birth documentation and bereavement photography through lived experiences, not just professional training. I am a mother to five children, one of whom is not earth-side, so both joy and loss have shaped my work and how I show up in birth spaces. Through my years of working in birth photography, I've stood with families in moments that were filled with anticipation, uncertainty, and grief. I've also seen how often people don't realize that they have options when it comes to documenting their experience. I didn't know. At least before it was too late for my first three children.
Advocacy and awareness are a core part of my work. I believe families deserve the choice to have their birth experience photographed and their story written, regardless whether their sweet child is born crying or sleeping. Writing birth stories is an essential part of what I do, a way to preserve details, honor each experience, and ensure every family's story is held with care, respect, and intention.
Early Loss
This may include photographing details like ultrasound images, pregnancy tests, letters, hands holding what might be unseen, or symbolic elements chosen by the family. These are centered on acknowledging that this life existed and mattered.
First Trimester
Neonatal
I'll document your little one using gentle techniques, small bowls or baskets, and carefully chosen elements with dignity and care. We can also include Neonatal Immersion Photography to capture your babies features more naturally and peacefully.
Second Trimester
Newborn
During a stillborn session, I'll follow a more traditional newborn style of photography. This can included posed and unposed images that reflect how you naturally hold, see and remember your baby. These are slow, respectful, and allow space for connection.
Third Trimester
Birth
I photograph your full experience as it unfolds, focusing on connection, strength, and the details that often fade with time. This flows naturally into a newborn session after birth. We'll create a visual and written story that's tangible for your family.
Labor & Delivery
Remembrance
These sessions take place before, during, or after the loss of a loved one at any age after birth. We can document memorial gatherings as well. They focus on preserving their legacy and continuing their story.
